A service line means underground piping and wiring that is located on your property and produces a service, such as delivering water or power to your home. This endorsement provides coverage to the service line(s), when the loss or damage is caused by:
a. wear and tear; b. rust or other corrosion, decay, deterioration, hidden or latent defect, c. collapse, but not including sinkhole or subsidence collapse; d. electrical and mechanical or pressure systems breakdown; or e. freeze.
Underground Service Line Coverage – Can Now be Added to your Homeowners Policy:
As a home owner, it’s your responsibility to maintain and repair the exterior water and sewer lines that are located on your property, from the utility service connection to your home. If the exterior water or sewer line fails, the cost to locate and repair the leak or replace the line will most likely be the responsibility of the property owner. The standard Homeowners policy does not provide coverage for this event.
Up until recently, the only way to purchase insurance coverage for the exterior water or sewer line; was to buy coverage from the provider your Utility Company recommended. In the Philadelphia area and surrounding suburbs, Aqua partnered with Homeserve to provide coverage to their customers. Now some Homeowners insurance companies can provide “Underground Service Line Coverage”, which gives home owners another option.
Typically home owners will find the Underground Service Line coverage endorsement will have a lower premium and the coverage is broader , than what is being offered by HomeServe on their “Exterior Water Line” & “Exterior Sewer Line” policies. Give us a call, if you are interested to know if your homeowners insurance carrier now offers the Underground Service Line endorsement. This endorsement does not provide coverage for piping that is within the interior of the home.
